Pricing

Pricing comparison.

At the entry level the two look similar at about $19 per agent per month, but they buy different things: Zendesk's $19 plan is ticketing only, with omnichannel and AI agents starting at $55, while Freshdesk's Growth adds automation and SLAs with AI on Pro.

At scale, AI billing dominates. Zendesk charges per automated resolution beyond an allowance, and Freshdesk charges per Freddy AI Agent session plus a per-agent Copilot fee. Model your expected AI volume before comparing totals.

Considerations

Implementation, ecosystem, AI and security.

Ease of implementation and usability

We did not test setup or migration for either product. Both offer per-agent plans with annual billing by default, and teams should pilot one queue of real tickets in each.

Integrations and ecosystem

Both belong to wider product families: Zendesk with telephony and Amazon Connect-based add-ons, Freshdesk with Freshworks products and Freddy AI. Third-party integration coverage was not assessed, so check each marketplace for your CRM and order systems.

AI capabilities

Both offer an AI agent that resolves requests and an assistant for human agents. The pricing models differ: per resolution on Zendesk and per session plus per-agent Copilot on Freshdesk. We did not test resolution quality.

Security, deployment and administration

Security documentation was not reviewed for either product. Zendesk lists sandboxes, audit logs and custom roles on Enterprise; Freshdesk reports an audit log on Enterprise. Request current security documentation from each vendor.

Strengths and limitations

Each option, in balance.

Zendesk

Strengths

  • A clear plan ladder from ticketing-only to a full omnichannel Suite.
  • AI agents are included in plans, with an allowance of automated resolutions per agent.
  • Higher tiers add governance features such as sandboxes, audit logs and custom roles.

Limitations

  • Per-agent pricing means costs rise with headcount, and monthly billing is reported about 30 percent higher.
  • AI resolutions beyond the allowance are billed per resolution, so costs vary with volume.
  • Copilot, voice, quality assurance and workforce management are priced as add-ons.
  • Enterprise pricing is quote-only, and older guides mention a Suite Growth plan that no longer appears on the main page.

Freshdesk

Strengths

  • Entry paid pricing is lower than many help desks, with automation and SLAs on Growth.
  • A time-limited Free Program lets very small teams try the product.
  • Freddy AI is split into Copilot, AI Agent and Insights, so teams can adopt AI in stages.

Limitations

  • Prices rose across every tier in 2026, so older guides show lower figures.
  • Freddy AI Copilot is only sold on Pro and Enterprise, raising the real per-seat cost.
  • AI Agent sessions are priced per session, and the 500 included sessions are a one-time pool per account.
  • Multichannel support needs the separate, pricier Omni product.
Best-fit scenarios

Which one fits which situation.

No overall winner is declared. The better choice depends on the criteria that matter most to you.

Choose Zendesk if you…

  • Teams that need omnichannel support with chat and telephony in one Suite
  • Organisations that want governance features such as sandboxes and custom roles
  • Teams comfortable with per-resolution AI pricing

Choose Freshdesk if you…

  • Small and mid-size teams that want ticketing with automation and SLAs at a low entry price
  • Teams that want to adopt AI in stages
  • Teams that can start with the Free Program or an email-first workflow
Switching

Migration and switching considerations.

Moving between help desks involves exporting tickets, macros and knowledge base content, rebuilding triggers and SLAs, and reconnecting channels. Plan a parallel run on one queue, and check that your target plan includes the channels and automation you rely on.
