Gorgias vs Zendesk: the short answer
Gorgias and Zendesk are both help desks, but they bill in opposite ways. Gorgias is an ecommerce-native help desk, built around Shopify and similar stores, with unlimited users and a monthly price set by a bucket of billable tickets. Zendesk is a general-purpose ticketing platform billed per agent with unlimited tickets, with AI agents billed per automated resolution beyond a small allowance.
The sources reviewed describe the choice as store depth against platform breadth. Gorgias is praised for in-ticket order actions such as refunds, cancellations and edits, and for being cheap at low ticket volumes. Zendesk is described as stronger for multi-channel support, routing, reporting and non-ecommerce use, with a read-only Shopify view in the sidebar.

All Zendesk plans and sourcesThe two models cross over at different volumes, so seat counts and ticket counts both matter. Using reported annual prices, our arithmetic for a 10-agent team gives $550 a month on Zendesk Suite Team ($55 x 10), about $6,600 a year, regardless of volume. On Gorgias the same team pays $300 a month on Pro for up to 2,000 tickets, about $3,600 a year, or $750 a month on Advanced for up to 5,000, about $9,000 a year, with no per-agent fee. So Gorgias is cheaper at 2,000 tickets and Zendesk is cheaper at 5,000 for that team size, before AI.
A simpler rule from one guide: the crossover ticket volume per agent is the Zendesk per-agent price divided by your effective Gorgias price per ticket. A store with few agents and moderate tickets favours Gorgias, while a team with high ticket volume and a stable headcount favours Zendesk's flat per-agent model.
AI changes the totals on both sides. Gorgias bills about $0.90 to $1.00 per AI resolution and, per one guide, each resolution also uses ticket capacity. Zendesk bills AI beyond a small free allowance at a rate it does not publish, and sells Copilot at $50 per agent. Model your expected AI volume and confirm current terms with both vendors.

Gorgias vs Zendesk: implementation, ecosystem, AI and security.
Ease of implementation and usability
We did not test setup or migration for either product. Guides describe Gorgias as quick for Shopify stores because order data and actions are native, and Zendesk as needing more configuration and often a third-party app for store actions. Both offer trials, so pilot one week of real tickets in each.
Integrations and ecosystem
Gorgias is built around Shopify and similar storefronts and treats store data as first-class inside tickets. Zendesk offers a very large marketplace, one listing reporting 1,500 apps, and a Shopify integration that shows order information in the sidebar. Check the specific store and logistics tools you use.
AI capabilities
Gorgias sells an ecommerce-focused AI Agent billed per resolution that can act on orders. Zendesk includes AI agents in plans with a small free allowance and bills per resolution beyond it, and sells Copilot for agents. One guide credits Zendesk's add-on with better handling of ambiguous questions. Output quality and resolution rates were not independently verified.
Security, deployment and administration
Gorgias is reported to be GDPR compliant with EU hosting. Zendesk lists sandboxes, audit logs and custom roles on higher Suite plans. We did not review certifications or data residency for either product, so request current security documentation.
Gorgias and Zendesk: each option, in balance.
Gorgias
Strengths and limitations from the profile
- Unlimited users on every plan means adding agents does not raise the subscription price.
- Reviewers describe a deep Shopify integration where agents act on orders without leaving the ticket.
- A unified inbox covers email, chat, SMS, social, WhatsApp and voice with customer context attached.
- Low entry prices of $10 to $50 a month suit small stores with modest ticket volume.
- Macros with order variables and rules reduce repetitive typing and routing work.
- The AI Agent is billed per resolution, and a resolved conversation can also count as a billable ticket, so costs can compound.
- Ticket overage of $0.36 to $0.40 each can make costs rise quickly when volume spikes.
- There is no free plan, and the Starter plan has no automation or AI Agent.
- The platform is built for e-commerce and is less suited to B2B SaaS or service businesses without storefront order data.
- SMS and voice channels may carry usage-based fees on top of plan prices.
Zendesk
Strengths and limitations from the profile
- A clear plan ladder from ticketing-only to a full omnichannel Suite.
- AI agents are included in plans, with an allowance of automated resolutions per agent.
- Higher tiers add governance features such as sandboxes, audit logs and custom roles.
- Per-agent pricing means costs rise with headcount, and monthly billing is reported about 30 percent higher.
- AI resolutions beyond the allowance are billed per resolution, so costs vary with volume.
- Copilot, voice, quality assurance and workforce management are priced as add-ons.
- Enterprise pricing is quote-only, and older guides mention a Suite Growth plan that no longer appears on the main page.
